Newbie question regarding "query by form" method

Hi everyone, and a happy new year!

I have a table with contact detail fields one date field and two Yes/No fields.
I want to create a "search form" which, when you input criteria like first name or last name, will display the rest of the contact information.

I've read this article about how to create a "query by form" : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304428

but every time I save the query, access keeps altering the criteria row by either splitting it after "Or", or by adding the forms textbox fields to the query...

What am I doing wrong here? Can anyone help me?

Does the QBF work? Access will make adjustments like that but the query should work. Are you using the primary example in the article? I don't really understand the OR criteria. Look at the third example in the NOTES. That's what I would use.

Here is a video that demonstrates one of the alternative techniques described in your referenced article http://datapigtechnologies.com/flash...tomfilter.html
that uses LIKE and wildcard but will work only if Null is not allowed in the data. If fields are allowed to be Null (data is not required) then the OR Is Null will be needed. The advantage of LIKE and wildcard is that not all the parameters need to be input on form.

    Thank you for your reply!

Unfortunately, the QBF does not work. No matter what the input is, I am getting an empty row as a result. Thank you for pointing out the third example, I will give it a try. I also find very interesting the video link you're posting (which is almost what I want to do!). So, I hope in short time I mark this as "solved".

    Thanks again!

I have both good and bad new!

The good news are that the approach from the video link you provided, worked better than expected. The bad news are that now I''m required to add information to the base, which probably means to create a new table and now I'm a bit confused about how to link and present information from multiple tables to one form! But I think this matter belongs to another thread, so I'll post it accordingly... So I consider this matter as solved...
    Thank you again!

Sounds like you will need a form/subform arrangement. Review: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ac...010098674.aspx
