    Input Mask Question

I am working with a database designed by another person. Many reports are generated from this database. Telephone numbers are not printing correctly in some instances (sometimes dashes print, other times they don't). After experimenting with a copy of the database and doing a few exports to text files, I think that the input mask was changed at some point to NOT save the mask characters (dashes), when they mask characters should indeed be saved.

There is a telephone number field and a fax number field. It looks like the fax number field is behaving correctly, while the telephone number field is not. I can change the telephone number field input mask to match the fax number field, but don't understand what the last few characters\symbols at the end of the masks mean. Can someone shed some light?

    Telephone input mask !999\-000\-0000;;-
    Fax input mask !999\-000\-0000;0;-
