    mid,left function

    I have a field name Doc_Nos. that has the following records as below

    Doc_Nos.


    123-D-EA-055269
    017-E-EA-044569
    327A-A-BD-69334

    now I want to have a result in the field name Site

    Doc_Nos. Site
    123-D-EA-055269 123
    017-E-EA-044569 017
    327A-A-BD-69334 327A

    Can anyone help me to figure out what would be my expression are?

    Left(Doc_Nos., InStr(Doc_Nos.,"-")-1)
