    Auto Number

Hi,I have a table with a field autonumber type. This table contains 2 field projectid and taskid. for every Project certain tasks have to be completed so the table appears as P1 activity 1,P1 activity 2,...,P2 activity 1,P2 activity 2......Projectid is a formatted 10 digit alphanumeric id whereas activity is autonumber.Problem arises when i wish to have P2 activity 1. Activity doesnt start with 1 again. Compact and Repair the db doesnt make much sense. Also if you have data say like P1 act 1,P1 act 2,P1 act 3,P1 act 4 and delete say record P1 act 2 then the remaining records P1 act 3, P1 act 4 do not decrement their values to P1 act 2and P1 act3. If anyone has a solution to this kind of problem please help. And if you wish to provide some sample codes or ideas for solutions
    please give them too.

You need to research autonumbers. You have assumed something about this field type that is not true.

    See this for more info

Also, I would suggest you review Normalization and Entity Relationship Diagramming to get a basis for your table/database design.
