    Syntax Error (missing operator) in query expression "<field name>"

    I'm getting the above Syntax error advice when I use the Filter button on the ribbon. The field I'm trying to filter on is a date field. It's not a query I've written, so I'm confused as why Access would deliver this advice on the filter.

    I place the curser in the date field and I'd expect to see a list of dates appear when I click the filter button, but I get the error advbice instead.

    Where do I look for the syntax error?

    Try right clicking and setting the criteria for the filter if you are not using a query or other sort of filtration on a form.

    I was getting the same error Jamescdawson in my employee table for a lookup field. I'm not sure what really causes it, but I was able to fix the issue by writing the query in the row source rather then leaving the defaulted table name.

    for example: rowsource = SELECT [Employee].[id], [employee].[last name], [employee].[first name], [employee].[status], [employee].[location] FROM employee ORDER BY [employee].[last name];
