    Simple Expression

i am a new user of access and am having a problem getting it to solve an expression.
i have created a query that totals 3 colums of numbers between specified dates. i need to subtract two of the columns from the third for a fourth total. i have tried inserting the expression =[first column]-([second column] + [third column]) - the program tells me the expression is too complicated and can't be solved. any help would be appreciated.

Are you using the Query Builder? What you are doing should work. BTW I moved your thread to Queries as you can see.
