I'm stumped with learning VBA in Access

Hello all,

I'm trying to learn vba programming in MS Access. Whenever I see examples, all I see are lines of codes but I don't understand any of it. I've tried reading books but get stumped in the first few chapters. I've read blogs online too but still the same problem. I think I have most of the basic theory behind it down. Should I be diverting my attention to certain parts in the code or what? Do I need to develop a dictionary in my head for functions? Please don't give me the suggestion of "keep trying, and you'll eventually get it."

What helped you reach the "ah ha!" moment?

Don't try to learn it all at once. Can you create a command button that runs the MsgBox function? That's a start. What is it you want to accomplish right now with VBA? Learn about that first.

I understood basic programming (ancient BASIC and Fortran) and database concepts when I was assigned to develop Access project. I had no VBA knowledge and little contact with Access. Because project was thrown at me halfway finished (took 4 years from idea to full implementation), we paid a consultant to mentor and get me up to speed. Lot's of little 'ah ha' moments. After 6 months I quit calling the consultant with questions.
