Cannot type in form with combobox

    Hello everyone,

I am new to access and have run into a problem. I have created a table with a lookup column containing a combobox that allows multiple values. And a form to enter the data. Either on the table or via the form I can not manually type data in. I would like to be able to utilize the autoexpand property, however, everytime I try to manually type I just get the system beep. Does anyone know what setting I could be missing?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You didn't use a "Lookup Field" did you? http://access.mvps.org/access/lookupfields.htm

    Yes

Could you give me a general explanation of what the best method would be? Thank you.

A ComboBox on a Form is just fine. Just not in a table. The ComboBox wizard can help you set it up properly.

There's an option in the settings even for lookup wizard, where you set "Limit to list" as yes or no. It's yes by default. If you want to be able to enter anything into that field, even items not in the lis, you have to change this setting to no.

Sorry for being so full of questions. I really appreciate the help. If I understand correctly I should have my tables set to text box and utilize the form for the combobox. This is where I lock my choices to the corresonding table correct?

Thank you very much for the help. I'm going through now, changing all my tables and updating my forms. This seems to be working much better.
