I am attempting to import an Excel spreadsheet into an Access database. Other spreadsheets have worked but I get an error message as above when I import.
I have no clue about the problem.

What version of Access are you using?
Both the spreadsheet and the Access database are in 2007 versions.
Have you applied Office 2007 SP1 and the HotFix that goes with it?
Current on all updates and fixes.
I was actually able to import the file into Access using Data Loader Enterprise Edition.
So is this issue resolved?
A workaround was found but I am curious the problem. I don't know what a 'search key' is. The spreadsheet clearly existed as I was able to complete all except the final step in the import wizard.
Remove field names and do the import - hoping that the wizard does not suggest 'indexes Yes' for any fields.
Something I do a lot with excel is to make all its fields text before doing an import - might be useful.
When I eliminate the problem disappear
I too had this problem...
and deleting spaces from my titles fixed the problem.
Thanks for that folks! Your suggestion to remove any prefixed space characters solved the problem for me! That was a head-scratcher! Any MS advice focused on a bug recommending a Jet driver update ... which doesn't apply to Vista. Very cryptic error msg that MS would be wise to clarify ... or just deal with the space characters by removing them?
Well I'll be darned - I messed around with a 25+ column spreadsheet for like 45 minutes before duh, I goggled it. These postings were spot on. I had one column with a space before the first character. Imported into a table like a charm after that. In 7 years I've never encountered that error.
Which is why the archives are maintained. Glad they were useful for you.
Hey all,
I'm getting the same error when importing a spreadsheet from Excel into Access 2007. I tried changing all the fields to text and making sure there are no spaces in the field names/ column headers. No luck!
Any suggestions?
Gracias!
