Can anyone tell me how to add a calculation that will minus a balance total when using a witdrawal transaction or increase the balance using a deposit transaction?
Or tell me what type of formula to use.

Your questions suggests that you are looking at your calculation as an Excel problem.
In Access, I have a transactions table consisting of account number, transaction date, transaction type and amount. Every time the transaction table is altered, a query gets the new total. No formula involved.

Here is a sample template for a check book that does what you are referring to. Look it over. You will need to make sure that both files are located in the same directory for it to work.
