    Newbie question re naming columns

    Hi,

I am simply after a database to archive magazine articles.

I dont need any hi tech features. Just something like......

Mag > Date > Article > Notes etc

However it wont let me use words like Date and such as it says it has reserved these words?

Im not sure how else to write date. Anyone shed any light why this is a problem? Surely I should be allowed to call the columns whatever I like?

    Thankful for any advice.

Unless you are trying to use Reserved words: http://www.allenbrowne.com/AppIssueBadWord.html
Just add something to the word: MyDate, LastDate, etc.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I can use DateX or whatever but this doesn't look right. I just think if a jobs worth doing its worth doing right.

I mean, surely everyone will have a date column?

Its going to annoy the life out of me having to call everything with mis spelled names.

Why is this a necessity? I have never used databases before so wondering why this is so. I mean, imagine MS word if you have to mis spell words as it has reserved them. Just seem daft, to this newbie anyhow. Perhaps there is a valid reason.

Since Access supports Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) if you want to reference your field named Date and put the current Date in it, how do you write it?
