Incrementing auto number every time a form is opened

The database I created is going to be used by multiple people at once. However, when testing the form that I created that adds records to the database, we realized that everytime someone opens the form, which has an "ID" field formatted to autonumber, it starts at the beginning number in the database. However, I want that field to always be set to "(New)" so that everytime the form is opened, the only thing that can be done is creating a new record. Does anyone have any suggestions?
