    Arrow SOLVED: Just a check......

    Hi everyone, greetings.

I'm new to learning Access as part of my schoolwork. Glad to find this forum useful!

I'm tasked to create a database for a bookshop from the tables given. Then, I'll have to generate queries, reports and forms.

For now.... can I just clarify whether I linked my tables correctly?

For tables 'Wrote' and 'Delivery', I made use of composite primary keys.

It would help if you uploaded the picture HERE instead of a public photo sharing site which is blocked at my work for me and probably blocked at other people's workplace as well. Just a suggestion so you can possibly get help from some of us who are limited by that.

Sorry, I got distracted. So did you get just the table names and you decided on the fields, or what? There are a couple of issues which may or may not be able to be resolved based on the answer to that question.

It's perfectly fine, and I'm happy you're willing to help me out on this!

My tutor gave me the tables and instructed me to link them together.

For example, I'm given Table: Author. Under that table, I'm given author number and author name as well. However, I an make up the author name and author number by myself.

Okay, so here's my take on it. In reality I would get rid of the deliveries table and substitute an orders table along with an order details table. And I wouldn't use the Inventory table like it is now. I would not include Units On Hand but instead use a calculation of incoming minus outgoing to calculate the inventory. Then there could be a physical inventory done every so often and then an adjustment made if there was a shortage or overage.

And I expanded it a bit to be more normalized. Hopefully I didn't ruin anything coming up but I couldn't just leave them as they were.

Also, I wasn't sure what the difference between customer and member was and so I have the customers table which has a field for memberID if they are one.

And I'm sure there are other things that aren't all that clear. So feel free to ask.

boblarson, I sincerely thank you so much for your help! Really appreciate the time you spent explaining things to me and clarifying with me. Now I've got to move on to validation part of my proejct, queries and making advanced report.
