Performance of ACCDB vs. ACCDR

I recently started pushing FE updates to my user with the DB in the ACCDR format. I started doing this mainly because I want to have rigid control over what my users can or can not do. I have noticed however that my queries run a little faster. I have a few queries that use data from 3 different tables. One of those tables has over 80,000 records and growing at a pace of about 5000 records a month. Since my tables in my BE are residing on a server on the network running the queries can be a little slow.
Can anybody confirm that the ACCDR is faster than the ACCDB? Also any other tips on improving the speed of my queries would be greatly appreciated.
