show duplicate records when appending a table

When using an append table query, when a new record violates a field set at index, no duplicates allowed, MSAccess gives an error statement that it did not update the table, but doesn't show the records that are violating the no dups setting.

Is there a way to show those records to the user so they know which new records they were trying to add to the table did not get added?

sure; preceed it with a FindDuplicates query. I believe that the embedded Duplicate query offered is for within 1 table only - so in your case sense you want to compare 2 tables you need to make your own. Simply make a query that joins those two tables and display the results to your user.

To make it elegant for the user experience you will want to run that duplicate query, insert an if/then along with a dcount so to check if it returns any results - if yes then display to user, if not continue with append query.

    Hope it helps.
