I have combo boxes connected to SQL Server with thousands of records that are instantaneous. There should be no lag with 200. In any case, you can adapt the same code/macro created by the wizard to your code.

well I've had troubles with SQL since day 1. sometimes it times out when creating large reports too, i haven't seen a lot of people with the same problem when searching google and even less solutions.

getting back on topic, i managed to create something similar to a combo box, it doesn't auto fill and it doesn't have a drop down. So really it works just like the search box i was originally looking for. All tho the root of it is still a combo box, its still quite laggy.

I'm starting to put the speed problems down to BT's server, it seems highly unlikely but i can't think i could've done anything wrong in the connection set up.
