Good point. As the db evolves I may indeed want to capture the dates that people entered and departed a project, but would have to figure out how to do it, because a person may be involved at the beginning, move away in the middle, and come back to be involved again at the end. Since I have personnel listed in one table, and projects listed in another would I just add the various date fields I need to capture into the table where Personnel and Projects are combined?

In the example I made up, I would think about putting begin and end dates in table "tblProjects" so you could eliminate projects that ended. And I would also have begin and end dates in table "tblPersonnelPositionProject".

But it depends on your "real" database structure.

Thanks for all the guidance, guys! I have learned a lot, which will help me set up my structure properly from the get-go next time around. I'm sure I'll have more specific questions as I play with my real data and make some forms, but I'll post those separately, since my initial question has been resolved.
