Referencing drop down list from form

I have created a form for cooking recipes which includes the number of servings of dairy, fruit, protein, etc.

I have created another form for daily meals (breakfast lunch and dinner) where I setup combo boxes with drop down lists of all the recipes.

How can I set up a query that takes the selected recipes from the drop down boxes in the daily meals form and sums up all the dairy, fruit, proteins for all meals selected?

FYI - I have tried setting up a query which uses the the recipes table (linked to the recipe form) with the field being dairy or fruit or protein and the criteria references the drop down box from the daily meals form but it always gives me a "0"

Thanks for your help! I'm hungry!!!

I admit upfront that I don't really understand what you are asking.

You mention forms, but not tables???

However, I do think this link or others at the site will be helpful
