    dsn file?

    Hi,

I'm taking over a project soon, which was done using MS Acess 2003. I've been provided a .dsn file, which when I open in textpad I see the connection information along with [ODBC]. I can update this to point to our dev db, but how do I get the access application to use this? As the access application is just using the form part, the db is sql server. do i need to update something or just leave them in the same directory for it to pick up the .dsn file? I've haven't gotten the access file yet, but wanted to know so i can connect when i get it.

    Thank you.

I connect one of mine using vba. I use the file for the specs.

If the info is not right, the right stuff should be the sql server page. I use mysql, and the documentation has all of the connection specs needed for Access.

I don't have the db with me, so I can't copy the code here right now as an example. sorry!

Typically I prefer to use a System ODBC DSN. I haven't used a File DSN for quite some time but I'd image you could just as easily create a System DSN and re-link the tables into the mdb.

thanks for the responses, i'll talk to the person who initially setup this application and see where i'm suppose to drop this file to have the access forms pick up the correct connection.

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
