cant change the data type ; there is not enough disk space or memory.

    Error message:
" MS Access cant change the data type ; there is not enough disk space or memory."
    (but of course there is)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engi nes\Jet 4.0
Set up to 50000 Does nothing.

Copied all tables into new MDB; no difference.
Copied data into new table structure that uses much fewer total characters; does nothing.

Max 80 fields, one memo, 90000 records,60 MB
Removed recently added fields, does nothing.
I can delete fields but cant change field length.
This is happening both on 2007 and on 2003; structure is in 2003

Happens to me all the time with tables having high record counts. While the datatype change won't work. The str() and lng() function will do what you need. Run a make-table query using those functions to change what you want and then delete the original table and rename the new one (backup first, of course).

Another option is to create a blank table with the definitions you want and the append from the old table into the new one.

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
