How to apply user-level security to multiple computers

    Hi,

I've designed an Access Database (using Access 2003) and assigned user-level security to it such that some users are read only and some are full access. Everyone requires a login and password to access the database. The problem is, once I copy/paste the database from my computer to the shared drive (where it will be accessed by all the users) the prompt for a username and password disappears. If someone could help me to figure out what I'm doing wrong, that would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!!
    Kendra

There is info on permission system here that has been discussed positively. It may help you, may not, but worth considering.

The prompt for username and password is programmed where?

You could just grab the username from the network and check it against your table of users. I do this because I presume if they got through the network login they are valid users. Of course this doesn't keep someone from sitting at someone else's already logged-in computer and opening the database. But we don't check userid for security, just workflow tracking. However, you could really impress people if the opening login screen says "Good Morning Joe, please enter your password."

Because the new users have to "Join the Workgroup" from their Access installation - i.e. join the mdw file
