Having just watched a video showing how filemaker can be used on the official site, I agree that its nothing like the product I tried 20 years ago.

Certainly no longer flat file and it does appear slick in the demo I watched.
And yes, it does use words like view in a different way.
No doubt if I tried it again now, I would find some of its terminology confusing where it is different to Access

The video emphasis real time updates which of course also applies to the data in an Access app used in a multi user environment over a LAN.
It doesn't apply to changes to the FE design / layout in Access as each user has their own copy of the FE.
In fact I'm really not sure I'd want design updates to be live in a real world situation

Does FM also work seamlessly and reliably over the web? What about wirelessly? If so, that's a big advantage

However, the video didn't show any programming which is where the power of Access really comes in.
The website mentions no code solutions more than once. Does that mean no code can be used?

Access has useful templates and a number of features that many new users employ e.g. navigation forms, split forms etc.
These make creating a new database also quick, slick and easy.
However, it is also true that they become very limiting after a while and most experienced developers don't use them.

Would that also be the case for filemaker? Perhaps excellent for relatively straightforward projects but what about beyond that?

As I use the 2010 version of Filemaker I cannot comment on the latest versions.

I don't know why scripts (programming) are not mentioned. Attached are lists of the script statements available in 2010. I think most of them are self explanatory. I have done very little work with Access 2010 and none with VBA, so I can't compare the available features.

The video showed the use of some of these but those it showed (and indeed many of those in the list) are the same as standard Access commands for which wizards are often available.
What I'm referring to is a full programming language as Access has with VBA and which is far more extensive than that list
Access also has macros which are similar to scripts. Good for beginners though most experienced developers never use them as ultimately you are limited by their scope.
