Still use a test copy of the database or table to change the datatype if needed. If you change it to text, the 8822 might go away back to nulls? But if not and you can see the 8822 after changing to text, then you can update all of them at 1 time. Good catch Ajax.

Thanks guys, that looks like it will worked. I converted to text box, the 8822's were still there and I just did a search and replace (8822 with the new ID of 9167). Then I converted it back to a combo box and it displayed the correct value. I need to wait for a good time to back up the current back end (I did this on an old copy) when they're not using it.

For the record, I get the whole user thing and admit to being a "button pusher" but there are a ton of ad-hoc queries we run here and if I hard to hire it out I'd have to not only wait but would pay a fortune. The "lookup" thing has not been a problem at all and I'm sure we can get all of the referential integrity (or whatever is needed) in place to prevent this in the future.

    Much appreciated,
    BB

Maybe, that's why I threw in my disclaimer at the very beginning. Isn't it likely (or at least possible) that if I knew to include that I wouldn't have needed to post in the first place? I am by no means ungrateful (hey, I got exactly what I was looking for: information and help) but this forum is just liken any other forum: lots of people looking for information and lots of people looking to prove people wrong. I totally get it (and am still thankful!). Chances are if we were friends in real life and you were the expert and I was the learner (just like here) you would have a completely different outlook (i.e. behavior) on the situation. That's just what the internet does to people.

That it, I'm done. Once again, thanks all!

It's not wrong information, just normal "I can't see everything you can see" communication on Internet. You solved the issue Ajax, leave it at that.
