    Yes, a query can be joined into the RecordSource, as long as it doesn't cause the RecordSource to be non-editable.

    Use the combobox NotInList event if dog or event not in the list.

    Ughhh.... unloaded and reinstalled Office, still no help with the DLL issue.

    Then finally found a MS Office site that actually fixed the issue by allowing you to run a small installer that corrected the files.

    Here's the link if anyone needs it. Perhaps it's already well-known, but it took me quite a while to stumble across it.

    if you scroll towards the bottom of the page you find an auto fix and a self fix, your choice.
