Need to handle null in any and all fields you want to use as filter criteria. As stated in post 9, the parameters must be under the constructed fields. Not seeing that in your query design.

thankyou, and I apologise for being pretty dense about these things. I will add the constructed field to all of my filter criteria.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "parameters must be under the constructed fields".
Is this what you mean: Put the constructed field into the Field box. Put the parameter (eg: LIKE "*" & forms!formname!controlname & "*") into the Criteria box. In my case I want to search OR not AND, so I add this parameter to each Criteria box stepping down the field columns.
Does this sound right?
