Yes, the more 'user friendly' and the more you want to control user interaction, the more code. When you encounter specific issue, start thread and hopefully someone will have a solution for you.

If you open qry ProjectRecordsStagesOfficers and click on the grey area then you
get the property sheet for the query. Change recordset type from Dynaset to
Dynaset (Inconsistent Updates)
hi june7, orange et al
im totally delighted to report that my problems detailed in this thread have been resolved!! Particular thanks to June7 ... you have been fantastic ( and very patient too lol)
june7..
the 'penny dropped' when studying your advice over and over again. i stated that for the final form to which i add officers to work stages i needed to be able to 'see' the stages as set up previously in project stages when going to assign the officers who were going to work them. This was what was all consuming in my minds eye.
the actual fact was that i needed that form to have the ability to let me CHOOSE the appropriate stages for the record and then choose the officers who will work those stages.
as well as the relationship / FK errors you pointed out, it was the point you made that i should not be linking the form to a query but to the table ProjectsStagesRecordsOfficers. it was while working at this, trying this to see what you meant --- the lightbulb came on...voila!! once the relationships an FKs had been cleaned up the end result was relatively straight forward. blush! lol
I really appreciate you sticking with me on the problem... i have been under extreme pressure from work to get this resolved... which has probably meant i haven't been able to 'see the woods for the trees' - my nose being squashed right up against the tree!!! I cannot thank you enough.
as promised previously i have posted a copy of the solution 'Project Database Solved.mdb. the from in the actual database will include the addition of a few combo boxes, buttons and code to allow managers the ability to assign stages and officers in batches
i will also close off a cross thread on another board too.
on a different topic and for your possible interest - i shall be posting another completely different thread. it involves the same database, however it is not so much an immediate problem as this thread was. but more a request for guidance on the near future construction of this system.
anyhoo,
this has been my first experience posting to any sort of IT board. it was tough for a bit, involved a fair bit of 'satellite' learning but was untimately very rewarding - not only with regard to the actual result, but also the experience of looking through threads, and the links and advice i have received.
Many many thanks
kind regards
Michael
