    I think I will just use this which you gave me earlier:

    Like [Forms]![0001Test]![Status] & "*"

    and just make sure there are no nulls in my table. This is easier than all the other possibilities. Do you agree?

    Yes, require a value in the Status field. You can set a default on the field.
