Trying to recover overwritten access 2013 File

I accidently "restored" an older copy (from a backup) of an Access 2013 database file by accident, and I have lost months of work (long story how i did that, but the bottom line is it happened :-\). Using a program from EaseUS, it found the newer copy of the file. I 'restored' the file, but now when I try to open it, Access says this is not an Access DB File. Is there any way of recovering the data in this file?

    Thanks.

    Ken L.

I would look at each with NotePad++ and see if the first few bytes are the same?
Windows also has a File History?

I presume if Notepad++ shows "NUL" I'm going to be SOL, correct?

I would expect so. However see if you have File History?

However I have just looked at one of my FE dbs and it has Nul, but opens fine.

Yes. The extension is accdb. What happened was for some reason I opened and was using the backup copy of the file when I was updating the data for iit. I then ran the backup program which took the file from the primary drive and copied the accdb file to the backup drive. After I realized what I had done, using a Easeus program to recover lost data, the program indicates it has found the file (with the accurate last time modified date) and the file was recoverable, but when I attempt to open the file, Access does not recognize it.

I know this isn't going to help with your current problem, but you'd better change that routine to back up in a new subfolder each time or insert the date and/or time in the file name, or something similar (like the digits to the right of the decimal value of Now() ). With the latter, it is conceivable that you could create the same number but it's highly unlikely.

Probably something with that Easeus program, not sure what it had to do to get your original data back but might want to check with them, might have modified it somehow.

Did you try to create a new database and see if you can import anything from that recovered database or guess it might say it is not an Access DB?

Have you looked at File History as I suggested?
