Navigation pane lists tables, queries, and reports haphazardly

Recently Access 2016 reorganized the list of tables, queries, and reports in a haphazard order. Queries and reports are listed below tables with which they have no relation. They still work correctly but it sure is hard to find a report or a query without the benefit of categorized listing. I "fixed" some of the reports by reselecting the data source, even though it was correct, and the reports moved to the correct table. However, I wonder if they will stay there, but the queries are a problem for me. I don't know how to re-establish the source link for them. I have tried different sorts for the navigation pane. Has anyone encountered this problem?

the reports moved to the correct table
I don't understand that because reports are not stored in tables. Reorganized them where? If in a table, then is it the names of the objects that are stored in a table of records that you're referring to? Or is this about the nav pane?

CLARIFICATION - For some reason Access is having problems grouping tables and their related objects (queries and reports) in the navigation pane. I opened each report in design mode and clicked the record source, even though it was already correct, then saved it. Immediately some of those reports moved in the navigation pane to the tables with which they have a relationship. I don't know what to do with the queries which are still mismatched in the navigation pane with unrelated tables. They still work but it is difficult looking 40-50 queries each time to find the one I'm looking for.

And yes, I have tried to sort them by category, tables and related objects, with no avail.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Interesting. Kind of reads like it may be the same cause as here (albeit you are not doing a Save As)

    Try compact/repair?
