    Question db FOR fleet management

i am trying to develop a Db for my vehical hiring buissness
have 10 specific vehicals equipped with GPS in my depot.

    i have 2 departments
    1)workshop
    2)controlroom

    for workshop

1)it should keep track of all the spare parts purchases by workshop. (spare parts etc purchased)
2)stock available in workshop its cost price, selling price
3)should track the parts exchanged under warranty.
4)track the repair work done on my varios vehicals.(summary and details the cost of repair on each vechical)

    for control room

1)give details of Kilometers (calculated through GPS),cost of fuel, cost of repair, and other misc. expensis
2)this should be able to produce the full vehicle health chart containing . -milage,expenses on repair per km, etc

and if i raise the count of vehicals to 100 ,i need a good reliable system.
i think it is possible to make this in "microsoft access2010 " but i am not sure it that can take the GPS readings from the device(although those reading can be manually fed).
please help me out in making this ...please....

    Have you considered commercial software?
There are some related data models here
    http://www.databaseanswers.org/data_models/index.htm

How do you do the fleet management now?
Is it working? Are there issues? Tell us more.

we basicially have a fleet management buissness.....we run vehicales for organisations presently we have 10 vehicles.

and run the system using different excell, tally files.but it is hard monitring thrugh data that is not linked to each other in a DB.

*vehicals runs for organisation and we get paid for the distance(calculated through gps) monthly.

*we have a workshop thats look into the repair and maintainance of vehicals

    what we want:-

    a DB that can:-
basically our workshop works like a supermarketwhere we have only 10 specific costumers(vehicals)

1)store the information if vehicle(name, regNo,etc) (logically these vehicals would be purchasing the spare-parts from the workshop)

    2)details of spare parts(type,manufacturar,costprice,selling price,salesman)
3)details of sales man - (name address, parts delevered @rate etc) (workshop would be buying the parts from this salesman ans selling to buses for some/No profit.

like wise we need repots giving the track of repair etc of vehicles
and sales purchase of through workshop
total expensis on each bus etc

    plus

for main administration this would like to add expensis like

    1)fuel cost paid by creditcard
    2)instalment to financer

and and payment receved based on kilometers travelled(for eg 10 @5$/km gives 5x10=50$)

and give the final reports to the administrator of our company

I would recommend you investigate available commercial packages or fleet management services.

You are in the fleet management business. Do you really want to be in the database design, build and maintenance business?

Google "fleet management services for small business" and see what's out there.

    Just my 2 cents worth..

Good luck with whatever you decide.
