Form Formatting Annoyance

really annoyed with Access this morning, have always had issues with this but today it is driving me nuts.

in a form or subform when trying to go to a continuous form, all of the labels need to be moved to the form header.

Click on the Label, Ctrl+X or Ctrl+C then paste Ctrl+V in the header.

sometimes access is happy to do this and past the label in the header. and sometimes it flat refuses.

I just successfully moved 4 labels to the top but the fifth label wont. it is not special it is the same type shape and properties of the other ones that I moved, but will not past in the header?

anyone know whats going on when it does this?

It can't be moved to another section without the control it is associated with also moving to that same section.
If you remove the association it will let you move it, or you can copy the label and paste it.

If you want to get the labels in the form header automatically use the form wizard to create a "Tabular Form" and it will put all the labels up there for you.
Even if you don't completely want that style of form, it saves a lot of time for a majority of the controls.

I agree with Minty, it might have been bound to the control. I always line them up, cut and then paste the labels into the header to be sure, never had an issue.

That all makes sense except I still don't understand why some have issues and most don't.
I created that subform using the subform tool and choosing a qry as the source so any or all associations between label and control would have been created by Access itself.
and the two previous labels I moved were for items that had the exact same data type as the one that had and issue.
and it wouldn't let me cut and paste or copy paste it to the header part of the form.

it is a minor issue that I run into often, usually I just try it a few times and will eventually work, just yesterday morning it was being especially difficult and I was already in a mood.

If you look at your picture, you will see that both the label and the associated control are selected.

The small grey square on the corner of the control gives it away, so even though you only selected the label, Access automatically also selected the control because of the association.
You can remove the association by removing the text from the Label Name property of the control.


If you press ctrl-x to cut the label it should allow you to remove it and then paste it back in the header section.
You can't drag and drop it though.
