    new to access, please help

Hello everyone. I am new to MS access, and I want to use it to organize all of my music. I want to be able to sort by artist/song name/rating/length, etc. Also, I was wondering if it would be possible to include a directory of the file(s), then have access open the directory containing that file. Thanks in advance.

there's help here Dave, but it's Saturday. Hence, not the workweek. If you have high expectations of the forum, please read this.

If all you want to do is organize like you say, use Excel. There is nothing special that Access can do for you that Excel can't, in this situation.

And if it's for personal use, why bother with a database just to look fancy? I'm assuming here, but I've seen hundreds of posts where people think Access is cool, so they ask about it, when Excel can do anything and everything they're talking about.

Access isn't PowerPoint. Nobody can explain how to create a database by answering a question, or even several questions. Read up on relational databases and microsoft access, then post a more specific question.
Alternatively, if you aren't interested in knowing how to create a database, but just want a solution, search the web for access database template music. Microsoft has one for version 2003 that might work.

I posted this originally Thursday I believe, with no responses. Many threads started after mine have received multiple responses.Since it isn't the workweek, I would think people would have more free time. I'm not a noob in that I have a reason for wanting to use Access. Not only does it organize my data, but it has the ability to launch my files and open folders. To the best of my knowledge, Excel can not. I posted on another forum and found their members much more helpful. Not only did I get a response that didn't make me seem like an idiot, I received helpful responses that actually answered my question.

You might be right, Dave. But I'm afraid not on the ability of Excel to open files and folders. Yes it can.

But at any rate, I'm glad you got the help you needed. Hopefully my words have not made you look too much like an idiot.

    Good luck to ya!
