    Database splitting

    I splitted a database in a networked environment. It works very well on the network. But when I relinked the database to another system to work locally without the Local Area Network, it refuses to open on the local system if the systemis disconnected from network. But as long as the system is connected to the network it works well on the local system. I need the front end to work with the database linked to it on the local machine without connecting to the network so that the user can access the application outside the office. Please I need assistance

    a) Put back-end of database into cloud;
    or
    b) Put front-end into your profile in terminal server in your local network. When outside, connect to terminal server through VPN, and start your database front-end from terminal server.

    ...it refuses to open on the local system...
    What do you mean by that? Are you getting an error message? Where is the actual Access program msaccess.exe located?

    Thank you for responding Mr. John. When I click the front end, it only opens the default MS Access page that displays open or new database. As many times as it is clicked to open, it opens the same default ms access page but as soon as the network link is connected, it opens the application normal but when the network link is disconnected like taking the system out of the office, it will not open. It behaves as if it does not connect to the local database on the local machine without connecting to the network.

    Thank you Arvil for responding. This means once cannot work on the application without connecting to the internet. The user do not have internet connectivity

    When I click the front end, it only opens the default MS Access page that displays open or new database.
    What are you clicking on there - the actual database file entry in the directory listing, or a desktop icon? If you are using a desktop icon, it sounds as if the properties of the icon are referencing a network location for the database.

    Mr.John, what I am clicking is the front end of the splitted database. I properly relinked it to the local database on the local machine but my greatest surprise is that it opens well with the local database without network connection on MS Access 2003 but do not open on MS Access 2010 or 2013 unless the network is connected. I do not know why it is always requesting for the network to open when I am very sure that it is properly linked to the local computer

    That sounds like you have a problem with one or more of the references in the 2010/2013 version. To check the references, open any VBA module, then from the menu, select Tools - References. For each of the selected references (they are all at the top of the list), there will be a location specified for the associated file. Are any of the locations referring to a network location (probably something other than c:\....)?

    Good day Mr.John. I have checked my references and every thing looks OK. What baffles me is that OTHER splitted access database i have on my system, when I try to open the front end, it gives a message that it cannot locate the networked database and it will show you the link to the networked database and when i relink it to the database on my system, it opens normally. But this particular application do not even show any message when i run it outside the network. Instead of the message of not seeing the networked database, it will just open the default access new / open database page without connecting to the database. I am really confused.

    I am not getting any error message unfortunately. It only opens the ms access default new / open page without opening the application no matter how many times i click the front end. The access program msaccess.exe is located on the program files. This problem is not peculiar to my system alone. I have ran it on three different systems with the same result
