Access or Excel for analysing data trends

    Hello.

I work in the Uk for a large organisation that has recently purchased bespoke sftware to monitor (eg barcodes) the supply and use of goods. There will be huge amounts of data accumulatyed over the years.
Can anyone advice whether MS Excel or Access (or other software) is best for analysing data trends.
I am a bit of a beginner at both Excel and Access.
    Many thanks for your help.

Access. Excel is good, but not analyzing over time.
    Use Access.

Before making some "best guess or coin flip" decision, identify the kind(s) of data to be analyzed. What sort of trends and decision points are to be measured/reviewed?
Most orgs would prototype/mockup some scenarios to identify more detailed requirements and possible solutions.
