No "Open Exclusive" option shown to enable setting of password

I have a 2007 formatted accdb that I want to set a password to use. The A2013 instructions state one has to "Open Exclusive" in order to set or otherwise effect an existing password. The option DOES NOT show.



Is there something else required to use the encryption facilities in A2013?

when you are in access: File, open , and the File explorer to choose the db to open,
there is a down arrow on the OPEN button, to select Exclusive,

is this down arrow not on the open button?

if you hold shift whilst opening the database and you are the only person. i think that will open exclusively. make sure you have read/write perms.

Shift key has no affect on any of the approaches to open.

That's what's puzzling. There isn't any arrow on the OPEN button.

Ranman's solution should work.
If the Open button really doesn't have the dropdown with 4 options, try opening Access using the Run As Administrator option.
You can do this from its desktop shortcut or from the Start menu.

Opening A2013 as administrator from the Start Menu had no affect. The option drop-down arrow is still absent.

It is also possible to open Access exclusively by using the /exclusive command switch after the program & file path
Create a shortcut as follows

"path to Access.exe" "path to your db" /exclusive

If that doesn't help, suggest you run an Office repair.

Okay, the instructions at "teachucomp" got me headed in the right direction. One has to use the drop-down on the file name pane to identify the DB file if one's computer is set for "Single Click", otherwise one DOES NOT get the opportunity to use the drop-down feature of the "OPEN" button. Needless to say, the instructions offered by ACCESS leaves a little bit to be desired in that they never identify "which" "OPEN" button they're talking about.
