Question Problem record-lock with multiple users

    Hi everyone,

    I'm having the following problem:

I have set up a database in MS Access (version O365 Pro Plus) with a navigation form linked to various (sub) forms. This database is on a network.

    Client settings - advanced:
    - default open mode: "Shared"
    - standard record lock: "Edited record"
    - Open databases with record lock: "unchecked"

Everything works fine when 1 user has the database open. But when multiple users open the database, it is no longer possible to add / change data in the underlying tables via the forms.

However, data can be added / changed via the "directly" opening of the tables.

Someone an idea how to fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Grtz P.

You need to read up and implement splitting the database.

This will solve your problem and prevent corruption issues from arising.

    Split database

    Hi

have you split the database into Front end and Backend, this should allow multiple users to access the database at the same time and make changes. you split the database within Access and i then i used the following software to track any changes you may make to the FE or BE.

    Hope this helps

Hi, yes I've tried to split the database into FE and BE, but without success. Problem still occurs while using the forms to "manipulate" data in the tables.

ok yes, it does work splitting the database to FE/BE and create a copy of the FE for each user!

Thank you very much for your quick answers!

If you need to make changes to your fe or be do not open them directly. Open access then browse to the file, then from the drop down options on the open button, select open exclusive. This should prevent users accessing the database whilst you make your changes. If you are using the software I sent the link to you, when the user logs in they get a message saying their local copy has been refreshed. I have had no issues using this program it works a treat. I also make regular backups of the fe and be to another location should the originals get corrupted.
