Cannot perform alpha sort for lookup field.

I have a table containing book publishers in a lookup field and had no trouble alpha sorting it by just using the A-Z Ascending command under the home tab.



I have another lookup field for book call numbers. This one was created in the field properties tab in design view. I don't seem to be able to alpha sort this one. Any help/information is appreciated.

I think I agree with davegri, but I'm confused with the "lookup field".
Perhaps you can show us more of the design to help with context --I'm not sure how the pieces fit together in your proposed design.

Because it's Alphanumeric, yes? So to simplify, CA303 comes after CA1234 when the latter is a larger number. If not, then please elaborate as requested, because sorting numbers in a text field will always produce undesired results. Your choices might be to split the alpha from the numeric (if they're not inter-mixed) or you'd need a sorting field of some kind.

Why extra quote marks following Santa Barbara and San Francisco? If this RowSource works, why did you post it? What does any RowSource have to do with sorting issue? Show sample data that has the issue.
