    Access and Google links.

    Is it unacceptable to use Google link shortened with Access? These are the warnings I received. I clicked Yes on the first notice, and then the second notice will not produce the link. I then moved on to the Bitly link shortener, and not having much luck with that either. I'm trying to link the Access database with the University's library titles, which are for the most part, extraordinarily long links. I'm getting about 60% linkage success.

    What is 'goo.gl' ?

    What do you mean by 'shortened'?

    Must be a valid URL.
    How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

    Just throwing it out there, the URL in the first image is using backslashes but URLs should use forward slashes. You could try changing the backslashes to forward slashes. Are the urls stored with the prefix http:// or https:// ? If not maybe try that.

    I think you mean in Access, use a link that has been shortened?
    Are you using application.followhyperlink? I doubt Access is able to work with a "zipped" path using that method.
    Or it could be related to security issues that are blocked by Windows or a system policy. See http://allenbrowne.com/func-GoHyperlink.html

    Also, what is a "long" url? 1000 characters or more? That seems to be at or near the upper limit for followhyperlink.

    I've just tried it and to my surprise it works

    https://goo.gl/mHWDQA is equivalent to http://www.mendipdatasystems.co.uk/contact/4584593419 (blatant plug to the contact page on my website)

    Both of these work with Application.FollowHyperlink

    @snowboarder
    Did you include the https:// at the start?
    I tried it but it opened to a blank page - possibly because a password was needed at an earlier page to this one or perhaps I copied it wrongly from your screenshot

    This https://goo.gl/LPoiEv opens the UCR Library Catalog page https://scotty.ucr.edu/ and both work exactly the same in Access

    Just what we all needed. The widespread release of a Google product that will enable spammers and hackers to mask the true destination of a site that hacks your pc. Or is Google going to filter out each and every possible harmful url? I doubt it.
