Software company seeks MS access programmer answer questions or to work on a contract basis

Greetings. We are Lab-Ally, a scientific data management company based in Columbus, Ohio, USA. We are working on a new project to integrate our 21CFR11 compliant scientific data, document and note taking solution with a client's MS access database. Our understanding is that they use Access to manage a list of chemicals and antibodies and other materials. Even though we have quite an experienced team of JAVA developers, slightly embarrassingly, we know basically nothing about MS Access and we are looking for an experienced user, or better yet a developer to help us. Naturally we can pay you for your time.

We are also looking for some creative suggestions from the community as to how we might easily try out a free or trial version so that we might better understand the scope of capabilities (of MS Access) and test some integration prototypes.

The client's request is relatively straightforward: they have a list of materials in MS access, and they want these to be painlessly imported and represented in the record keeping system that they bought from us. They would even settle for a way to simply reference the entries in MS access such that clicking something in OUR software would then open the appropriate record in MS Access.

Doubtless there might be other organizations using Access for whom this sort of functionality would be useful, so if your organization would like to integrate your access database with a 21CFR11 compliant system that captures the history of how items in your DB were used in the context of your processes and workflows, please contact us, we would value your input and we may have a solution for you.

This is our first post here, so feel free to school us on appropriate posting etiquette and maybe point us at the right sub-topic or related forum if you think this is not the right place for this request.

So what language is your program developed in? Java? What db platform does your application use? If you want your app to pull from Access, you need to learn how Java connects to Access db. In which case an experienced Access developer may be of no use. Your Java developers should be able to figure this out.

How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

Our system is 1005 java and uses SQL (either MySQL, MS SQL or oracle) and also some RDF technologies. Yes, absolutely our developers are probably going to be able to figure out how to physically make the connection, but there is more to this project then simply figuring out how to transfer values from one field to another. If we are going to invest in an integration with MS Access, we really want to know more about that product's full range of capabilities and use cases so that we can better understand what kinds of workflows and tools we might recommend to other MS Access users and what kinds of solutions we might build by making the most of the complementary features of both products. We don't necessarily need a developer, maybe what we need is a scientist who has used MS Access to solve a variety of research data management challenges in several different laboratory or research scenarios who can then help us figure out what MS Access might be able to do BETTER when combined with the capabilities of our product. The value proposition is not "look, we can move numbers from here to here!" it's more like: "By combining these two products in an innovative way we can make the following sorts of tasks much easier for your organization".
