    Hi

New user from Canada still learning the basics of access and what it can do. More importantly I am quickly learning that I may be limited in what I can do. My main reason to learn access is to keep in one place all the information that my Dr's are telling me that I have to keep track of. Things like BP, pulse, weight, and blood sugar readings(4 per day) and be able to print a report that I can show them how things are going. After doing quite a bit of reading I decided that access is the answer. Problem is that I am very limited on what I know(learning more and more each day)

Now the reason for this post. Designing a complete new data base from scratch for me is very intimidating at the moment and I was wondering if this forum has any ideas where to look for templates and such that I could start with and maybe modify to suit my needs.

Thanks for reading and any comments would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks in advance

    Don

Welcome to the forum! Always glad to help out a fellow Canuck. Suggest you look here, perhaps under section 17 (maybe number 35)

M$ has made it very easy to create a db - the trick is to do it well. Possibly the most important aspect is to understand the basics of normalization. I have a bunch of links for novices if you're up to reading.

    Access IS the answer.

Templates like that may be scarce, but you can pretty much do everything with a simple Parent/child table setup.
all tests would be saved in a tTest table and have the Patient ID as reference.

    tTest table
    PatentID (long)
    TestID (auto)
    TestName
    TestDate
    TestResult

then all test can be viewed under the patient form as a subform.

You would also need a test time since the blood sugar readings are done 4 times per day

    Welcome Don,

What is your role in the Dr's office? Database analysis and design, development, implementation and operation is not typical.
What does the office use for appointments? Billing? etc.
Do you have a clear set of requirements? --always the best place to start.
Whether you build or look for commercial options, you need specific requirements to determine feasibility and approach.

    Good luck.

    Hi Orange

I am not with a Dr. Office or a medical professional at all. Wanted too but only 1 thing stopped me(grade 11 biology *LOL*) This is for my own personal use. Making the database is my way if giving myself something to do since I cannot work any longer.

    Thanks for the reply
