    relationship's many to many

    hi gusy
i'm a newbie so pls. be patient with me...
i'm trying to create many to many relationship between tables, but something is not working so well

the idea is to have the possibility to create remarks while i'm reading books, and to have several 'tags' to each remark, but also to use these 'tags' when i'm using other tables like 'articles' or 'thought' or what ever
the problem is that i'm keep getting a message of error that a contact is missing
    help please

    Books/articles table - one-to-many to Remarks table - one-to-many to RemarksTags table
Tags table - one-to-many to RemarksTags table
Not sure where 'thought' comes in -?

    thx
i need the 'tags' table to be used for both remarks or thoughts
but i need the same tags, i.e. that only tags that i allow (input in the table 'tags', are allowed) in both 'thoughts' or 'remarks'
so when i search a specific tag i get all related

Are the 'thoughts' independent of the books/articles? In their own table? Or related to the books/articles? If they are in a separate table, nothing to do with books/articles then there would be a thoughts/tags table, with a one-to-many for each.

Before you deal with tables and tags etc, write a clear, plain English description of what you are trying to achieve. Give yourself and readers a context for understanding your issue.

Tables and relationships are derived from your requirements --so getting the requirement clearly defined is a critical firs step.

There are lots of references available through Google/Bing.
    Many to Many relationship

    Good luck.

    thank you ALL
    i'll try from the beginning
i need a program that will give me the oppurtunity to write down remarks and thought or reffernce regarding books and articles i read, i would like to put several tag tp each thought or remark that i write down
    example:
i read a book about Kupernikus i would like to write down a remark regarding page no. 23 i'm reading that says "xxxxxx" next my remark i would like to add several tags 'science';'Krakow';'early europe history' etc.
when i read page no 25, in the same book, i have another remark that says "yyyy" and tags: 'Krakow'; 'Kepler' etc.
i need to use these same tags when i have my own thoughts about ideas regarding these topics, or reading another article
i.e i want to be able to have a list of tags that can be used for several tables
at the end i have a several books\articles and remarks regarding some pages in these books\articles and each remark has several tags
than can be used in another table named 'thought'
i hope i made myself clear

    A few questions to clarify:

You have reading materials--some may be Books, some are articles (magazine, periodical, newspaper....??)
How much info is needed to identify/reference the source material??
For these materials do you want to know Title, Edition, Date of Publication-- or any other reference info???)
What is the purpose of the "tag(s)" exactly? Could it change?
Do you have a list/categorization (even loosely defined) of the sort of "remarks" you intend to record?

    hi,
yes i do need more info attached to my reading material, but i believe i can deal with that
so yes for both first question
the purpose of the 'tags' it to be able later to combine to one report or any other way all remarks i made for each tags so i can go back after several month of reading and combine several kind of magzines\books etc to each and every tag
and yes i need the tags to be flexible. i.e my list that should grow and be added values\terms but when using the tables of remarks or thoughts - only tags from list should be chosen
    thanks again

Have you created any sample output to confirm the kind of info and tags you might need?
Always a good practice to describe what you are trying to do; and create some test data for input; and create some sample reports based on your anticipated needs. Testing what you need for output will help confirm that a) confirm your outputs and b) validate that you have inputted and/or calculated the values you need to output.

    Good luck.
