Edits for email addresses

I don't believe (correct me if I am wrong) that it is possible to use an input mask for a field containing an email address, since they vary a lot. However, I am looking for a way to put in edits that would help to avoid some common errors (like @@ where there should be only 1 @). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
