    Replica/Design master

I have a database that started in Paradox in the 80s. I converted to Access and then have updated the file format each time I got a new Access version. I am now in Access 2007 and have been stymied a couple of times because the database is a "replica." I honestly cannot remember when this was formed. I have always been the only one who works with this database and with the database software at all. This is the only file I have - the "design master" must have been deleted somewhere back in pre-history.
Can I change the replica to a design master? F1 provides no help that I can find.

A DATABASE WILL NOT BE USEFUL IF IT HAS LIMITED RECORDS.............hi to everyone! I have requested microsoft through their customer service email if it is possible to increase the size limit of the database. I noticed that ms access 97 limit is 1 gigabyte and ms access 2000 to 2007 is 2 gigabyte. I talked to our country's local microsoft office branch and they told me that the request maybe granted depending upon the number of users who will request for the increase. Therefore I would like to appeal to all users of all MS Access to join me to email to Microsoft through their website contact to email them our concern. I have requested them if possible to increase it to 100 gig or even to terabyte. Let us help one another so that our request maybe granted as soon as possible.

The 2 Gig limit is only on a single db but you can open many db's from one db and each has a 2 Gig limit.

its true. you can open many db's with 2 gig each. but what if you have continuous record of inventory. 2 gig is not enough. that is why sql was created due to its huge terabyte database. 2 gigabyte is very small now.

for example you have exhausted your 2 gig of db for inventory or for your accounting records. and you continued your new records of inventory or accounting on your new db, how would you connect your old db to your new db so that the records will show its continuity?

that is why we are requesting microsoft to increase the size of its ms access db so that there will be no more hastle on the continuity of records. I think there is no problem if we request for it since it is advantageous for us users of ms access and there is nothing to loose.

It sounds to me like you need to look into SQL Server. Is this MultiUser? I believe the Express version of SQL Server is free and supports up to 5 users just fine and does not have the 2GB limit.

Are you aware of the fact that you can have an Access FrontEnd and an SQL BackEnd?

yes I am aware for front and backend mr. moderator. but the forum I have posted here is or our request to microsoft. Upsizing the size limit of ms access database only.

why do i like ms access than SQL is that ms access is much more simplier and easier for me to use. that's it.

Exactly why Access is a good choice. Once you have the link to the SQL BackEnd it is just Access you are dealing with. You should look into it.

SQL application is not a MS Access application Mr. Moderator.

Some users of ms access here mr. moderator are not in-depth programmers but they have learned to use it by self-study. Therefore, they do not know how to use other programming languages, we are only focused to MS Access. However, we do like MS access application to make programs and use for our own. And since we, like me, are discouraged of the size limit because we cannot continue to record our voluminous transactions especially if the db is full. Since MS Access is a product in MS OFFICE PACKAGE, therefore, we are entitled to its full potential. Actually if for recording purposes only, the TABLES in the MS Access database would already suffice not to mention the forms and queries.

That is why, we are requesting if that can be done.

And my forum that I have posted here is just a guide for them to realize that we can probably make way to solve our problem. You see, its not a question or answer in this site but an information, a type of information that maybe directly or indirectly can solve a visitor or a member's problem.

Do you at least split your application to FrontEnd and BackEnd?
