On go to new record, "You can't go to the specified record, You may be at the end of a record set"

I have a Main Screen populated with command buttons that let me open other forms. When I close any of these forms, and click on a button to take me to a new record, I get "You can't go to the specified record. You may be at the end of a record set". If I then click on the button to take me to a new record again, I can get to the new record without any error. If I click to either of 2 subforms first, then I can get to a new record without any error. I have tried in a macro and with code, to set the focus to the subforms, but cannot make it work.

I would like a solution that lets me close out of any of the other forms, and be cleared of this error, ready to click on the button and go to a new record. Any help would be appreciated

I found a solution but do not understand the implications of it. When I close one of the other forms, I add a macro action to open the Main Screen again. Then I can click on my button to add a new record and it all works. So the action to open the Main Screen again seems to set the focus back to the main screen. I don't understand what is actually happening when I open the main screen again (even though I know it is open because I see it).?

if you are forcing a record to be added you are doing the wrong thing, you will end up with a bunch of blank records in your database.

I understand your concern, but forcing the record is part of my process for adding a new transaction. When the user clicks on Add New Record, it does force a record to be added, they then select which set of forms to accomplish data entry to the new record. Thanks for the help.
