Prevent query from running if false

This query opens an update form after a report number is entered:

The current behavior is this: a blank form opens if a report number is entered and it has has a "true" research_request. I want this to happen, but I'm worried it will confuse users.

Instead, I'd like the query to not run if the false condition is not met. Is there a way to do this?

It sounds like you are running the query directly. Have you looked into using a Form or even a macro?
