    Tool Management Database

Hi all! Relatively newbie here with what I think is a simple question but can probably spin out into a big one. Anyone have any experience creating a tooling database for something like a machine shop? I have a really good start that I think will work for inventory and component management but I'm hung up on how to go about handling assemblies. Right now I have a inventory table to house and manage all of my components and transactions for inventory management but I need to create unique assemblies consisting of multiple components. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The assembly table would have fields:
    part, ParentPart

parentPart would be the part# that is the given part is in its assembly.
like a car Wheel, would be the parent of tire and hub and lug nuts.

    tire,wheel.
    hub,wheel.
    wheel,car
    lug nuts,wheel
