    Form won't add attachments

I am new to access, creating my first database for suppliers.

I have created a form using two tables (tblsupplier and tbldocuments) which has an attachment control. However, the control will only allow me to manage/view the attachments and will not allow me to add any attachments via the form. If I want to add any attachments I have to do this via the field in the table (tbldocuments).

I recently inserted the attachment field in the table after I created the form, could this be the problem?
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue so I can add attachments on the form?

    Any help would be great

    Thanks
    Megan

I suggest you watch a few youtube videos re Ms Access and attachments
to get some knowledge of how users work with attachments.

    Try google with these keywords
    youtube msaccess attachments

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the reply!

I spent so much time on youtube and other forums trying to resolve this which brings me here. I did have it working on the same database before although had to delete the table and create a new one from an excel spreadsheet, which make me think it may be because I altered the table after I created the form.

    Hope this makes sense!

I have also seen the same issue come up on a few other forums but they never seem to be resolved

Is the errant Form based on a single Table or on a Query comprised of both Tables? Can you, in fact, enter data in any other Control on the Form?

    Hi Linq

I see I am unable to amend any records via the controls on the form "This recordset is not updatable"
I created the form using the form wizard using two tables tblsupplier and tbldocuments

Is there a way to update the records on both tables via the form?

Multi-table Queries (a Query is what you always have when you're involving more than one Table, regardless of how it was done) are almost always Read-Only. To enter data in more that one Table, using a single Form, is usually done using a Main Form/Subform configuration.

In this case (and this is a guess, assuming you can possibly have more than one document, per supplier) you'd base the Main Form on tblSupplier and the Subform on a Form based on tblDocuments. The tblSupplier would have to have a Primary Key, something like SupplierID, with tblDocuments having that same SupplierID as a Foreign Key. These Fields would then be used to connect the Main Form and Subform via the Subform's Properties Link Master/Link Child Fields.

You can then enter data into both Tables from a single 'form.'

Thanks! I managed to create a main form with two subforms to populate all three tables

    Thanks again
