I don't think you can. I assume you are talking about the VBA editor, and although there are several types of text you can set colour for, string identification is not one of them.
If we're talking about a form or report control, you might have limited success with conditional formatting. You'd need an expression that tests for the first character being the double quote or bracket. Since it could get hairy trying to tie in the last character as well (using expressions) I wondered if you could use a function for conditional formatting. Yes, I was referring to the VB Editor. i think you are right that you cannot do this in MS Access' VBA Editor. I have seen no way to do it. It makes me wonder why Microsoft won't add something like this to their editor.
