    Problems with Access

I am trying to make an Access project for a class but when I submit it to the instructor she does not grade it because the queries are done incorrectly. I followed all the steps in the instructions but seem to be doing something wrong and cannot figure out what that might be. I have uploaded the instructions and two pictures of the queries. Hopefully somebody can tell me what I have done wrong and how I can fix it.

I'll put my tutor hat on for this one.

The instructions state "the query should include data entries only for items that have been repaired".

Now look at your query results - do they meet that requirement? No, because all items are shown whether or not they have been repaired.

So, think about what aspect of query design is used to limit or specify which records are included in the query results.

Hint: Since the requirement is to show only items that have been repaired, then that field ("Repaired") will be used.

Post back if you are still stuck.

I tried to use the filter to hide all the items that were not repaired. The instructor still did not grade it. Then I tried to delete them but she said they everything had to be included for the project. Is there another way to show only the repaired items?

One of the features of queries is the ability in design view to specify which records will or won't be included in the results when the query is run. In design view, this "filtering" is done using query criteria.

What you want your query to do is:

"Show me all the records where (...these conditions are met...)" The criteria specify what the conditions are.

In the query design view, you will see a row labeled "Criteria" at the left. It is in this row that you specify the conditions that the field or fields much meet in order for a record to be shown.

Yours is a simple query - only one field will have a criteria condition.

Can you see which field it is, and what you will put as the condition?

I want to thank you for your help. I used the criteria feature and it showed only the repaired items as I wanted. Now the instructor has accepted the assignment and I have been given full credit.

Glad I was able to help. Good luck with the rest of your courses, and welcome to the Access community.
