    Microsoft access on the web

    Hello.

I am working with Microsoft access 2013. My database has been a good resource for five volunteer personnel who have been updating it. However, unfortunately I have some new volunteers that only use Mac. they do not have partitions to use Microsoft windows. And as volunteers it is too costly for them to gain the necessary software and hardware utilize the database. Since the database is stored locally I thought a web access to it would be the answer. I have the ability to host it but since the database is already created I am not sure how to go about creating a webpage from the data entry form so that it can be accessible via the Internet. Is this even possible? Or do I need to try and find a comparable database software that will work on both Windows and Mac? If it is possible to create a web page interface for my database that will update the database on the server, how can I go about creating this?

I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Thanks for the link. It doesn't really seem to address my problem but will keep looking. I want to be able to host the database on my own server and use web forms to manipulate data. If this cannot be done I will find some work around.

I understand. Access and the web can be a challenge.

Not quite clear on your situation - are you saying you have a number of users, some with PC's and some with Macs, all working off the same network? And what you want to do is create an Access web interface which can be run on either type of machine to access the data in an access database?

With regards windows partitions, you can install a virtual disc (oracle do one for free) but you would still need the appropriate windows licence to install windows. You could then provide the mac users with a runtime version of the front end. Probably at a significantly lower cost than spending time developing and maintaining a web based front end.

Access 2013 allows you to create web forms - but you have to start with that, you cannot (so far as I am aware) develop a client based front end and then convert to html based. Access web forms have much less functionality than client based so you basically need to start again although I guess you can copy tables and data across.

Allowing your server to be accessed directly from the internet (i.e. not via vpn) is fraught with the risk of being hacked.
